SIMA ARMCHAIR
The SIMA CHAIR was born from a deep exploration of a fundamental component in the subcontracting industry — the modular aluminum profile. Commonly found in curtain wall systems and machine parts, this element is often hidden in plain sight, yet plays a central role in the way our built environment functions. Its versatility and structural clarity inspired us to reimagine it through the lens of contemporary design.
At the heart of the chair lies a focus on the most minimal, unassuming profile: the 30×30 mm aluminum section. By emphasizing its inherent geometry and unique cross-section, we sought to celebrate the material in its purest, most honest form — through precise assembly and seamless joining techniques.
As in many of our design processes, we turned to art history for inspiration. The SIMA CHAIR pays homage to Gerrit Rietveld’s iconic Red and Blue Chair, a hallmark of the De Stijl movement. This exploration naturally led us to the Bauhaus — where the dialogue between horizontal and vertical lines, and the intentional breaking of symmetry, played a key role in shaping modernist design principles.
Echoing these values, the SIMA CHAIR is composed of intersecting vertical and horizontal elements that never physically overlap — connected through concealed joinery that emphasizes clean lines and spatial clarity.
This chair is a contemporary translation — a product of the high-tech era. Crafted from raw aluminum profiles and a precisely notched acrylic sheet, it creates a visual interplay of light, shadow, and transparency. The result is a quiet yet striking presence, where industrial materials meet refined composition in a seamless expression of modern design.
